AI clone for authors: let readers talk to your books
Last updated
An AI clone for authors is a twin of you, built from your books, articles and interviews, that readers can question about your ideas by chat, voice or a live avatar in your voice. On AIMayDo (aimaydo.com) it's free to build. You set a price per minute above the €0.50 base, readers pay only while they're talking, and you keep 80% of your markup. When their free time runs out, it can send them to your books.
What does an AI clone do for an author?
It lets readers keep the conversation going after the last page. They want to ask how an idea applies to their own life, what you meant in chapter four, or what you'd say about something you never wrote about. Most never get to ask you. A twin answers from your own books and interviews, in your words, and it says so when a question goes beyond what you've written.
It also introduces new readers to your work. Someone who talks to your twin on your website hears how you think before they buy a book.
What do you build it from?
Your books and manuscripts, articles and essays, interview and podcast transcripts, talks, and the answers you give readers most often. Documents work as they are, and recordings are transcribed. Add a face photo and a short voice clip for the talking avatar.
You then read the rules drawn from your writing, approve the ones that are yours, and test it with questions you know the answers to. How to build an AI coach has every step, and it works the same way for books.
If you're not sure your publishing contract lets you use your text this way, check it first, or ask your publisher or agent.
How do readers pay?
Per minute, only while they're talking to it. You set the price at or above the platform base of €0.50 a minute and keep 80% of everything above the base. A typed question costs a quarter of a minute. Readers buy credits through Stripe, they don't subscribe to you, and their credits don't expire.
A worked example, not a forecast: at €1.50 a minute you keep €0.80 of every paid minute, so 200 paid minutes in a month comes to €160. Payouts go out through Stripe once a month when your balance reaches €100. The calculator on how to monetize an AI avatar works it out for your own numbers.
Can it send readers to your books?
Yes. You set one link and a short line of text in your dashboard, such as the page where your books are sold. A reader who has used up the free taster and has no credit left sees it below the top-up options. The free taster is 3 minutes by default, paid from your own credits at the base rate, and you can change it or switch it off.
Where do readers find it?
On its own page on AIMayDo, on your author website with one script tag or an iframe, and in the experts directory if you want to be listed. Your website and newsletter are the natural places to start, because your readers are already there.
What does it not do?
It's labelled as AI on every screen and never claims to be you in person. It answers from your writing and the rules you approved, and it gives information, not professional advice. Your consent is recorded and stored before it goes live.
How do you start?
Create your twin for free, add one book and the interviews about it, and test it with the questions readers send you. There's no subscription. Your only cost is the free taster you choose to give.
Questions people ask
- Can readers talk to an AI version of an author?
- Yes, if the author builds one. On AIMayDo an author builds a twin from their own books, articles and interviews, and readers can question it by chat, voice or a live avatar in the author's voice. It's labelled as AI and answers from the author's own writing.
- How much can an author earn from an AI clone?
- It depends on your price and how many paid minutes readers spend with it. You keep 80% of what you charge above the €0.50 base. At €1.50 a minute you keep €0.80, so 200 paid minutes in a month is €160. We don't publish an average, because we haven't got numbers that would make one true.
- Can I build an AI clone from my published books?
- Yes, from text you have the right to use. Authors usually hold the copyright in their books, but a publishing contract can limit how the text is used, so check yours or ask your publisher or agent if you're not sure.
- Will an AI clone stop people buying my books?
- It's built to lead to them. When a reader's free time and credit run out, it can show one link of yours, such as the page where your books are sold.
- Where are payouts available?
- Payouts go through Stripe once a month when your balance reaches €100. They're available to authors in the EU, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
